English Direct Sentence

From Flat Sheet to 3D Art

Paper, we use it daily in one way or another; to scribble and draw on, to feed our printers or simply just to read off. But this material is capable of a lot more. This is where paper engineers like Lydia Shirreff come into their own.

"I guess I got a bit bored of seeing flat things on walls," she says about her beginnings in the design world. And luckily so, considering her already impressive, still constantly expanding, client list - ranging from Tatler, Vogue, Grazia and Elle magazines to De Beers, Harrods and Lush in the retail world.

Considering this, the possibilities for paper art seem endless. Whether it's set design for a photo shoot, stop motion animation for a website or seasonal gift packaging, intricate, hand-made, three-dimensional paper design is the advertising approach brands opt for in order to stand out to bring a touch of traditional craft back into a predominantly digital industry.

It's the combination of approaching a traditional medium with modern techniques and being inspired by sculptural work of the likes of Jeffrey Koons that makes Lydia's self-taught craft exciting to look at.

A love for shapes, patterns, textures, and an unconventional approach to design, results in her permanently exploring the limits of working with paper.

"I usually start from a sketch, and don't really plan that well, it's more trial and error," she admits, as she sits surrounded by the beautiful results of her apparently uncoordinated work method.

For Lydia, as for every artist, bouncing ideas off someone else is essential. It therefore comes as no surprise that she often collaborates with photographers and is also part of Sope Studio, a design collective consisting of five young creative, each with a different skill set ranging from textile design, illustration and print to up-cycled product design.

Summary of Business Communication

Business Communication

·        Definition of Business Communication.

Business communication is communication that promotes a product, service, or organization; relays information within a business; or functions as an official statement from a company.

Business communication (or simply "communications", in a business context) encompasses such topics as marketing, brand management, customer relations, consumer behavior, advertising, public relations, corporate communication, community engagement, reputation management, interpersonal communication, employee engagement, and event management. It is closely related to the fields of professional communication and technical communication.

·        Media channels for business communication include:
-         Internet.
-         Print media.
-         Radio.
-         Television.
-         Ambient media.
-         Word of mouth.

·        There are several methods of business communication, including:

1.  Web-based communication - for better and improved communication, anytime anywhere.
2.  Video conferencing which allow people in different locations to hold interactive meetings;
3.  E-mails, which provide an instantaneous medium of written communication worldwide;
4.   Reports - important in documenting the activities of any department;
5.   Presentations - very popular method of communication in all types of organizations, usually involving audiovisual material, like copies of reports, or material prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe Flash;
6.   Telephoned meetings, which allow for long distance speech;
7.  Forum boards, which allow people to instantly post information at a centralized location; and
8.  Face-to-face meetings, which are personal and should be succeeded by a written follow up. Suggestion box, it is mainly for upward communication as because some people may hesitate to communicate to the to management directly so they can give suggestion by drafting suggestion in suggestion box.

·        Effective Business Communication

Communication is the top quality that employers look for. Effective business communication starts by asking the right questions to understand the customer’s needs and wants to be able to recommend a product or service customized to the customer. One good tip would be to speak, pause, and listen. Communicate what you need and then pause to let the recipient process and respond to the information. With an average of 1800 messages being sent by workers through memos, telephone, email, faxes, and face to face, it is important to listen and pay attention to the recipient and send your information clearly. All in all, to be effective in business communication you need to be clear, brief, focused, and committed. You make an impression on everyone with the way you handle your communication skills from your voice to your body language.

Face-to-face Communication-Face-to-face communication helps to establish a personal connection and will help sell the product or service to the customer. These interactions can portray a whole different message than written communication as tone, pitch, and body language is observed. Information is easier to access and delivered immediately with these interactions rather than waiting for an email or phone call. Conflicts are also easily resolved this way as verbal and non-verbal cues are observed and acted upon. Communicating professional is very important as you are representing the company. Speak clearly and ask questions to understand the needs and wants, let the recipient respond as you resolve the issue. Decisions are made more confidently during a face-to-face interaction as the recipient asks questions to understand and move forward with their decision.

Email Communication-When using email to communicate in the business world it is important to be careful how things are worded. Miscommunication is very frequent as the reader doesn’t know what non-verbal cues you are giving off, such as the pitch, tone, or expressions. Before beginning an email make sure the email address you are using is appropriate and professional as well as the message you are going to send. Again, make sure the information is clear and to the point so the recipient isn’t confused. Make sure you include your signature, title, and other contact information at the end.

Telephone Communication-When making a business call make it clear who you are and where you are from as well as your message when on the phone. Smile and have a positive attitude as the recipient will be able to read you and that will affect how they react. When leaving a message, make sure you are clear and brief. State your name and who you are and why you are calling them as well as contact information. If replying to a voicemail try to respond as soon as possible and take into consideration the time of day. Don’t call to early or too late, as it is important to respect other’s time. Also be mindful of where you are and the noise level as well as the people you are around when trying to reach someone by phone.

Memorandum Communication-Memorandums are straight to the point and used within a company to communicate information to individuals or departments. Make sure the memo includes a subject and stays brief but to the point. Include what the recipient needs to do after reading the memo and a signature or initials of whom it is from. Business memos should have a center title in uppercase and to, from, and date aligned to the left. To begin, state the problem, and then discuss the causes of the problem and why it exists, and end with what to do to solve the problem while offering assistance.

Analisis Bentuk Kata Benda Jamak Pada Sebuah Teks

SECRET GARDEN

Stunning sites are turning up left and right along Taiwan’s east cost, causing some divers to wonder how such a gem could be kept a secret for so long.

The water was cold and the encrusting algae that cast a purplish hue over the reef seemed alien. In the distance I saw the faint silhouette of Connie Chen waving madly. Fining closer, I saw a pair of large orchid-like lumps dancing near a strange half-eaten starfish. Harlequin shrimps! I turned to Connie and muttered under my noisy exhaust. “We’re not in Kansas any more”.

TREASURE UNEARTHED
When Silk Air begins its flights to Kaohsiung in 2007, I had the opportunity to explore several of Taiwan’s seldom-reported dive destinations. Those sites closest to Taipei are concentrated around its northeast shores. Local divers rent their tanks from the only two dive operators at Longdong Bay. There are many known sites frequented by the diving community; but to the more adventurous divers, the entire stretch of shoreline by the costal highway promises numerous new exciting reefs, all waiting to be discovered.
The rest in front of He Mei primary school remained relative unknown until my dive buddy. Connie, began finding rare critters on a regular basis. Consider it Taiwan’s answer to Lembeh Strait, with appearances from highly priced weedy Rhinopias and mimic octopus.
Entry into the water is from a rock structure that acts as breakwater to protect the facilities for abalone culture. I asked that my equipment and cameras be brought to the water to avoid falling on the on the slippery rocks. Connie put me to shame as, fully suited, she walked from the car park carrying her own camera without a fuss.
The purplish algae on the temperate reef had a bizarre effect on my tropically accustomed eyes: It masked the presence of its inhabitants. Without Connie I would never have been able to spot the many critters hiding within the reef. There were several nudibranchs, many of which I’d never seen. New to me was a pair of black velvety nudibranchs, about the size of a thumbnail, with gaudy orange spots.
While I was looking at a resting flathead under a piece of rock, a flying gurnard swam by, spooking both fish which sped off in opposite direction. We’d planned to swim across a patch of coral reef to reach a muck bottom, but we never got there due to discovery of several pairs of harlequin shrimp. I’ve seen harlequin shrimp (in Manado and Lembeh) but never so many in a single dive. Connie later told me offhand that harlequins are common here, and that she’d seen a shrimp molt that very morning.
One day later two instructors from Longdong Bay’s lone operator, Diving Hotel, showed me a reef of the coastal highway at “kilometer marker 115”. On this dive I was honored to have as my dive buddy the famous movie actress Jacklyn Wu Qian Lian. (The Taiwanese diving community is well spread and reaches to people quite high in society.)
Access to the beach was from a tiny stairway at the side of an old shop house. Within minutes I knew we’d uncovered another gem. An avid underwater photographer, Jacklyn brought my attention to several cone shells, cowries, blennies, boxer crabs, an yet another harlequin shrimp. We also found an unknown nudibranch that camouflaged it self within the branches of its red sea fan host. The surge was too difficult to contend with, and it was near impossible to take a good look at the nudibranch much less get a good shot of it.
Beside the coastal highway near the 117.5 km marker is a new site discovered by veteran diver Mr. Kuan. When I learned we would have to climb down another steep, narrow mud path through dense vegetation to get to the rocky beach beyond, I nearly aborted the dive. But long time friend and well known photographer Jolly Huang understood my plight, and had already arranged to have my equipment transported down. Good thing she did.
Most impressive was that Jolly made the long trek down without any help at all. It seems the women in Taiwan need no chivalry! Upon reaching the bottom we encountered our guide, Mr. Kuan. Knowing that we were photographers, he made us promise not to take any images of the rare sea fans on the deep wall at the site, in the hope that commercial collectors wouldn’t learn about their existence.
Unfortunately, within minutes of entering the water we lost Mr. Kuan. Visibility was awful and a strong current keep pushing us back. As agreed upon earlier, Jolly and I began our preparations to surface to find Mr. Kuan; but while ascending, we were distracted by a pair of harlequin shrimp prowling the shallow wall.
The Jolly began to find several frogfish and juvenile rock scorpionfish- all remained motionless above a pile of rocks, and were only visible once we neared with our cameras at the ready. Within the rocks and under the scorpionfish sat a tiny eight-centimetre-long juvenile Spanish dancer nudibranch, which proved to be a true senorita, even when disturbed from her beauty nap.

Lirik Rapuh

Detik waktu terus berjalan
Berhias gelap dan terang
Suka dan duka tangis dan tawa
Tergores dalam lukisan

Seribu mimpi berjuta sepi
Hadir bagai teman sejati
Di antara lelahnya jiwa
Dalam resah dan air mata
Kupersembahkan kepada-Mu
Yang terindah dalam hidupku

Meski ku rapuh dalam langkah
Kadang tak setia kepada-Mu
Namun cinta dalam jiwa
Hanyalah pada-Mu

Maafkanlah bila hati
Tak sempurna mencintai-Mu
Dalam dadaku harap hanya
Diri-Mu yang bertahta

Detik waktu terus berlalu
Semua berakhir pada-Mu

(lagu ini menunjukan bahwa Allah lah tempat kembali, cinta yang hakiki hanyalah kepada Allah)

There are two common ways of telling the time.

1.      Formal but easier way

Say the hours first and then the minutes.
Example: 7:45 - seven forty-five
For minutes 01 through 09, you can pronounce the '0' as oh.
Example: 11:06 - eleven (oh) six

2.      More popular way

Say the minutes first and then the hours. Use past and the preceding hour for minutes 01 through 30. Use to and the forthcoming hour for minutes 31 through 59, but .
Example: 7.15 - fifteen minutes past seven
Example: 7.45 - fifteen minutes to eight
Another possibility of saying '15 minutes past' is: a quarter past
Another possibility of saying '15 minutes to' is: a quarter to
Another possibility of saying '30 minutes past' is: half past
Example: 5:30 - half past five
1:15 - a quarter past one
4:30  - half past four

Note

Use o'clock only at the full hour.
Example: 7:00 - seven o'clock (but 7:10 - ten past seven)
In English ordinary speech, the twelve-hour clock is used.(i)
Beispiel: 17:20 - twenty past five
For times around midnight or midday you can use the expressions midnight or midday / noon instead of the number 12.
Beispiel: 00:00 - midnight
Beispiel: 12:00 - midday or noon
To make clear (where necessary) whether you mean a time before 12 o'clock noon or after, you can use in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening,at night. Use in the morning before 12 o'clock noon, after 12 o'clock noon use in the afternoon. When to change from afternoon to evening, from eveningto night and from night to morning depends on your sense of time.
Example: 3:15 - a quarter past three in the morning OR a quarter past three at night
More formal expressions to indicate whether a time is before noon or after are a.m. (also: am - ante meridiem, before noon) and p.m. (also: pm - post meridiem, after noon). Use these expression only with the formal way of telling the time.
Example: 3:15 - three fifteen a.m.

It is not usual to use a.m. and p.m. with past/to.
Example: 3:15 - fifteen minutes past three OR a quarter past three

American English

Beside past Americans often use after.
Example: 06:10 - ten past/after six
But: in time expressions with half past it is not usual to replace past by after.
Beside to Americans often use before, of or till.
Example: 05:50 - ten to/before/of/till six
